Our Facility – About Us
Our story
We have always dreamed of opening a dog daycare. We are passionate about dogs, with two of our own Ginger and Luther. We had owned a property in Collingwood for many years, and when this property with the kennel was offered, we knew this was our opportunity to make our dreams come true. In May of 2024 Bark Barn officially opened. Our property has lots of room for dogs to enjoy fresh air in a large and inviting rural setting. We endeavor to take care of your dog(s) as we would our own during their stay with us. We do not charge extra for compassion, caring and nurturing your dog as our guest.
Our dogs have always enjoyed a pack environment daycare session once or twice per week. Our enrichment daycare space is ready for qualified dogs to enjoy this experience.
Our facility
Our kennel and indoor space are connected to our home. There is always someone on the property if we have customer dogs onsite. We are equipped with a back up generator for power outages. The kennel is equipped with security cameras (running 24/7), smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and carbon monoxide detectors for your dog's security. Our kennel and indoor space are climate controlled with a heat pump for heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. There is a lot of natural light in the kennel and indoor space, and both are equipped with large fans to move air around when needed. We have noise suppression and air purification in the kennel to provide a more comfortable and stress-free environment for your dog during their stay. We offer standard and larger kennel spaces with fresh water and elevated beds. We normally use bottled water for dogs but also offer the option of filtered and UV purified well drinking water. Any area of the kennel the guests are in, including individual kennel spaces, are cleaned daily. Dogs enjoy the outdoors on a standard schedule 5 times per day, starting at 7:00 am and ending the day at 9:00 pm. Dogs are outside fully supervised for 30-60 minutes per outing. Outside times are shorter during inclement weather and extremes in heat or cold temperatures. We have four different segregated outdoor areas the dogs can be let out into. The “small” space is typically used for smaller dogs, dogs that are not social or are elderly. This is a space we use for introductions across the fence. The “medium” space is typically used in inclement weather by all the dogs that are comfortable in a group. When the weather is comfortable we are usually out in the “large” space. Our newest area we call “The Pasture”. This area is equipped with a three-tier raised platform, a tunnel with a ramp over it, an agility hoop and more. This space is commonly used for our structured daycare program.
We feed on your dogs regular schedule as best we can. Please provide enough food for the duration of your dogs stay and ensure it is well labelled with your dog’s name and serving instructions. Pre-portioned food is ideal. We encourage dog owners to bring a blanket or bed from home along with a special toy if desired. We are happy to administer any vet prescribed oral medications your dog may need. Medication must be provided in original containers with full instructions on how to administer. Examples include pill pockets, wieners, peanut butter, cheese etc.
